Postdoctoral Fellow in Machine Learning

Interns working in the lab gain practical skills relevant to neuroscience, such as experimental techniques, data collection methods and surgical procedures. This direct application of knowledge enhances their competency and proficiency. The program allows the interns the opportunity to be involved in surgeries, which showcases the lab’s commitment to providing a well-rounded experience and exposure to medical research at all levels. Intern’s potential and work ethic allows for a tailored learning experience and stretches each intern to achieve the highest level of skill as possible.  There is significant emphasis on working closely with everyone in the lab to promote collaboration and teamwork as interns will interact with various other students, graduate students, doctors, veterinarian and multiple staff from the institution. Working in the Brain Trauma Lab teaches, models and expects professionalism, attention to detail and appropriate lab, operating room and intensive care unit conduct. There is an expectation to keep precise notes and follow established protocols set by the lab, Massachusetts General Hospital and federal organizations, which will prepare the students for any future endeavors. In the lab, we encourage and recognize leadership potential and promote to team leaders as we see competency based on the time in the lab.

Requirements for Undergraduate Students: Undergraduates have the expectation of at least a one-year commitment, which includes 10 hours per week during the school year and increases to 20 hours per week during the summer.  Students’ work will be both in the lab and remotely, with the expectation of weekly meetings based on the projects assigned. Interns will play an active role in surgical experiments, including overnight and weekend shifts.

Requirements for Graduate Students: The Graduate Student Intern in Medical Research will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects within The Brain Trauma Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience, foster advanced research skills, and facilitate collaboration with experienced researchers and medical professionals. The intern will be involved in various aspects of medical research, including experimental design, data analysis, and the interpretation of results and be encouraged to take a greater responsibility and leadership roles. Graduate students commit to one year with the lab, with the increased expectation of at least 20 hours each week.
